The Augusta Commission has approved a resolution for a special election to let citizens decide on a sales tax that could fund construction of the new James Brown Arena Complex.
The election will be held on November 7, 2023, putting it in the citizen’s hands to vote “yes” or “no” on the 1/2% sales tax.
“If they want to see some quality of life, a coliseum that’s been a lot of thought, a lot of efforts been put in it to make sure it has every facet that you would want in a civic center, vote for it,” Commissioner Wayne Guilfoyle says. “It’s half a cent sales tax, if you don’t, stay home.”
